Safe Sanctuaries
We are a “Safe Sanctuaries” congregation!
Safe Sanctuaries is the name of our children/youth protection covenant and policies. Objectives of Safe Sanctuaries:
- To protect children and youth
- Protect the adults
- Protect the ministry
- Protect the church
What does that mean?
We realize our children/ youth are our most precious resource and we strive to surround them with a safe, secure environment.
Background?
The General Conference of the United Methodist Church has mandated all churches develop such a policy. We formed a task force to study, research, and develop a strategy that works for us. Our Church Council approved our Safe Sanctuaries Policy in April 2005.
A few key points?
- We require an application, reference check, background check and interview for all adults who work directly with children/ youth.
- A minimum of 2 adults are scheduled in every classroom.
- We have a 6 month hospitality policy for new attenders. This allows us time to become acquainted with them while they get to know Kid’s Zone. However, if someone is eager to get started serving in Kid’s zone or youth ministry, we offer first-serve opportunities for you!
We encourage all parents to attend a Safe Sanctuaries training, usually held every 6 weeks. If you would like more information, or a copy of the Safe Sanctuaries Policy, please email Kim Dobler at kdobler@broadwayunited.org
