Multi-site Planning Documents

Information about the Greenwood Campus

If you have been around Broadway at all in the last 6 months, you certainly will have heard the term “multi-site,” but what does that mean, and why is it such a big deal? Multi-site gives us the opportunity to literally ‘go out’ into our community in new and pioneering ways. This initiative will affect the way we all look at “doing church”. Multi-site is more than a program or a growth strategy; it is an approach to ministry that allows us as a church to reach more people more effectively.

In June of 2006, Broadway UMC and Greenwood UMC officially merged their congregations. Greenwood was a small United Methodist Church with a rich history. Located on Scottsville Road, the church is situated in one of the fastest growing areas of Warren County, with a large concentration of young families. The potential of this location and the proven strengths of Broadway’s ministries create a powerful combination to reach many more people for Christ.

It is easy to get excited about what the future of this multi-site venture has in store for us as a church and we have already witnessed a significant impact of the merger of our churches in the visionary leaders who came to us from Greenwood. They have stepped immediately into service--on the Multi-Site Implementation Team, the prayer team, and our administrative teams--and have inspired all of us with their desire to do whatever it takes to build God’s Kingdom.

The extensive work involved in this exciting ministry development could not happen without the input and skills of the numerous individuals currently working on the project. The Implementation Team has been working tirelessly since shortly after the merger and has been joined recently by seven sub-teams working on the specifics of this project (Facilities, Communication / Marketing, Children’s Ministry, Worship, Volunteers, Welcome Ministry and Small Groups). These teams will continue to expand as more and more people become involved in making the Greenwood campus an irresistible worship environment.

The stakes are high for this shift to multi-site as a ministry strategy. In Warren County alone 50,000 people do not attend church regularly. We feel that God is leading us to come together to restore vitality to the Greenwood campus and then to go from there to develop new venues and campuses to reach new people who might never have been touched by a church. Whether you plan on attending at Greenwood, or you will continue to worship at the Melrose campus, this new approach to ministry will enable all of us to see the church as a body of believers and not a building or a specific location.
